“Yes, there will be growth in the spring”, the character Chauncey Gardner in the movie, Being There (1979)
That quote above by the late Peter Sellers from the movie 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 is one of my favorite movies of all time where he plays a reclusive gardener named Chance and is thrust into the world of Washington politics and immediately becomes a sensation as a thoughtful advisor to the President as played by the actor Jack Warden.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played that clip since my wife and I first saw the movie as graduate students at Fordham University, but that phrase “𝒚𝒆𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈” has always been a powerful reminder for me of how important it is to keep on planting new seeds in every season of life, but especially during Lent and in this Jubilee Year of Hope for the Church.
Helping clients plant new seeds in life and career as well as carefully tending to those already well-established seeds is a big part of what I do as an Executive and Career Coach as well as in my work as a Bereavement Counselor.
In Executive Coaching, we focus on helping clients identify their Powerbase within their organization that is critical to their success and develop specific strategies to enhance performance with superiors, direct reports, peers, and other external stakeholders. New seeds are planted for their continued professional development while recognizing that older seeds of behavior may not get them where they’d like to be in the future.
In Career Coaching, we help you identify your most trusted and cherished connections that you have carefully cultivated over the years and who you can tap into for their timely input and advice. New seeds of connections can then be planted to align with targeted roles and the companies that define the search campaign.
In Grief Counseling, we help discern what seeds of joy and memories of the life they had with their loved one can be carried forward as they navigate to that new place of life they are trying to find, recognizing that their loved one will always be a part of who they are.
So how about for you?
· Are there new seeds you can plant this Spring in your family, your work relationships, and in the various communities you are a part of?
· What rocky soil gets in the way of your efforts to plant those new seeds? What else could you do to enrich that soil?
· Spiritually, what new seeds could you plant to enhance your relationship with the Lord – is it more prayer, attending Mass, receiving the sacraments, reading scripture, joining a ministry?
Wishing my clients, coaches, colleagues, and friends a spring season filled with an abundance of seeds of hope, Dr. K 🙏 ❤️ 😎
